North 24 Parganas at a Glance

The district of North 24 Parganas in West Bengal extends from latitude 22 degrees 11 minutes 06 seconds north to 23 degrees 15 minutes 02 seconds  north and from longitude 88 degrees 20 minutes  east to 89 degrees 05 minutes  east. It is bordered by Nadia in the north, Bangladesh (Khulna Division) in north and east, South 24 Parganas and Kolkata to the south and Kolkata, Howrah and Hooghly to the west. Barasat is the district headquarters of North 24 Parganas district. North 24 Parganas is the most populous district in West Bengal. It is also the tenth-largest district in the State by area and second-most populated district in the country, after Thane district of Maharashtra (Census of India, 2011).


According 2011 Census, North Twenty Four Parganas had population of 10,009,781, of which male and female were 5,119,389 and 4,890,392 respectively.
